Two Tri-Town teams scrimmage in last test before season

ROCHESTER — The Old Rochester Regional High School boys soccer team made the approximately 20-minute drive over to Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School for a preseason scrimmage between Tri-Town teams on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

The exhibition match served as a final test for both squads before they embark on the journey of a new regular season.

Old Rochester head coach Michael Devoll said it was good to be able to compete against Old Colony, who he described as a “strong” team.

The two schools rarely meet in athletic competitions due to being in different leagues and divisions.

The scrimmage was the last of four for the Bulldogs before regular season games began.

“We love starting a new season with a blend of new players and returning veterans,” said Devoll.

The Bulldogs are coming off a strong 2023 campaign that resulted in a trip to the Massachusetts state tournament and a record of 11 wins, 5 losses and 2 draws.

Out of the 11 starters from the 2023 Old Rochester team, seven are back for another go.

“We have a lot of contributing seniors who have experience,” Devoll said. “I think we are ready for our challenging season.”

Devoll said his goal for the team is simple: win as many games as possible and see where that leaves the Bulldogs entering postseason play.

The Cougars are coming off of a 2023 season which left them just outside of the playoff picture, finishing with 8 wins, 7 losses and 3 draws.

The team will look to improve on that record to reach the postseason this fall.
