Hip-hop dancing, murals, and pottery making were just a few of the many, many activities at Sippican School’s eighth annual “Arts in Action” festival on Friday night.

With all proceeds going toward supporting the school’s arts programs, the event featured 20 different art stations - each with something different to offer the more than 200 people in attendance.

Additional activities included playing the harp, bookmark weaving, tote bag painting, and T-shirt decorating. In between activities, guests enjoyed some homemade food in the school’s cafeteria.

Oil painter Dale Wallis led numerous young artists in the techniques behind painting landscapes.

Of the event, Wallis said, “This is my third year volunteering and the kids just love it. They look forward to it every year.”

Sippican School fifth-graders Jackie Barrett and Ellie Whitney said they especially loved painting the group mural.

In honor of her friend, Whitney painted Barrett’s catch phrase – “It’s Jackie time.”

This year marked Barrett’s first time at the event.

“I love it,” Barrett said. “There’s so much you could do. We watched the talent show and my friend played the saxophone.”

Sippican School sixth-grader Nolan Gibbons belted out a tune for the kids to dane to inside of the school's multi-purpose room.

"That's his thing - singing and dancing," said Nolan's father, Warren. "He's been practicing for this for a while."
