MARION — The Sippican Lands Trust will host a walking tour of the Radio Tower property on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m., starting at the end of Benson Brook Road in Marion.

The site was once one of the largest telegraph stations in the world. It features old radio tower foundations that once supported 400-foot radio antennas used by the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company of America. The antennas received signals from across the Atlantic Ocean during World War I and throughout the early 20th century. The radio towers and transmitting equipment were removed from the site in the early 1960s.

The site is accessible from Benson Brook Road, past the Marion Transfer Station. Limited parking will be available, and carpooling is recommended.

The walk is free, and registration is not required. Participants are advised to bring water, and dress appropriately for a 90 minute walk in the woods.
