Watch a total lunar eclipse with the Buzzards Bay Coalition

Jan 7, 2019

MATTAPOISETT — A rare celestial event will take place in the sky on Jan. 20, and those interested in getting a better look at the lunar eclipse will get a chance thanks to the Buzzards Bay Coalition.

On the night of Jan. 20 into the morning of Jan. 21, the shadow of the earth will pass in front of the full moon, creating a total lunar eclipse.

The Buzzards Bay Coalition invites residents to watch the event at The Bogs at 138 Acushnet Rd.

This eclipse will reach its peak at 12:12 a.m. on January 21. Stop by any time between 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. to view the moon up-close and personal, and learn a bit more about this astronomical event.

Sky viewing is weather-dependent, so check the event page on Facebook for any cancellations. Warm clothes are recommended.

Binoculars and telescopes are welcome, and some extra binoculars will be available for use. Hot chocolate will be provided.

For more information or to register, visit the Buzzards Bay Coalition website or call 508-999-6363, or email bayadventures@savebuzzardsbay.org.
