William T. Dunn, 81

William T. Dunn, 81, of Marion, died Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the Tobey Hospital in Wareham after a long illness.  He was the husband of Elizabeth S. (Sequeira) Dunn.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late William Archibald & Florence (MacLean) Dunn.  Raised in Wareham, he graduated from Wareham High School, Class of 1947.  Mr. Dunn was a lineman for New England Telephone for many years, retiring as foreman in 1989.

An active duty U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Dunn also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve after his enlistment and retired as a Petty Officer after 37 years of service.  He was the recipient of several Military awards and citations during his service to our Country.

He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Knights of Columbus, Fr. Damien Council in Mattapoisett, a volunteer for Wareham Area Hospice, a volunteer driver for the Marion Council on Aging, and a former member of the Marion Republican Town Committee.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, W. Thomas Dunn Jr., M.D. and his wife, Susan of Auburn ME; Michael L. Dunn and his wife, Dina of Greensboro, NC; Brian P. Dunn and his wife Eileen of Marion; and his daughter Catherine E. Arkins and her husband Daniel M. of Melrose, MA.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Caroline, and Cooper Dunn of Auburn, ME;  Maggie and Lee Dunn of Greensboro, NC; Sam and Kathleen Dunn of Marion; and Brendan, Elizabeth, and Anna Arkins of Melrose , MA.

A memorial service will be held on Sat., Sept. 17, 2011 at the First Congregational Church, 28 Main St., Marion at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be private.
