Workshop aims to build confidence in teenage girls

Jul 20, 2020

MARION — Tri-Town Against Racism will hold a mostly virtual workshop series called Glo-up to inspire confidence and new vision in teenage girls.

The guest panelist for the event will be Dr. Celina Pina Shemos, known in the United States and in Cabo Verde, West Africa as “The ambassador of emotional health.”  The free, three-session workshop will be held on Zoom and is open to Tri-Town and area girls ages 13 to 18. The culminating event for the workshop will be held at Tabor Academy on Aug. 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Being a teenager is hard; it’s easy to be unsure of who you are and what you believe. Social media, family, friends and our culture all influence us," Pina Shemos said, adding, “girls, it’s time to dig deep and decide who you are, who you want to be and how you want to live your truth.”

The Zoom workshop dates are July, 22, July 29 and Aug. 5, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Participants may join even after the first session.
