Film to explore life of Marion's namesake

May 6, 2013

What’s in a name?  In the case of Marion, plenty.  While some may recall General Francis Marion from their history books, there’s much to be learned about this master of military strategy.  On Friday, May 10, at 7 p.m., the public is invited to explore the life of the Revolutionary War hero with the educational film, “Chasing the Swamp Fox.” Co-sponsoring the film presentation are the Sippican Historical Society and the Marion Council on Aging.

The film aims to shed more light on the military leader whose guerilla-like warfare aided in the defeat of British troops in South Carolina during the Revolutionary War. The presentation will be held at the Marion Music Hall, 164 Front St., and is offered free. For more information, contact the historical society at 508-748-1116.
