1 dead, 7 injured in Mattapoisett rollover accident

No charges have been filed following a fatal car crash on Route 195 in Mattapoisett as state police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.

One New Bedford woman was killed and seven people were injured in the single vehicle rollover accident that happened around 12:30 p.m. on June 9.

State police said Jeanett Reed, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The vehicle’s driver was transported by medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Police did not release the driver's name, but said identified her as a 40-year-old woman from Florida.

Police determined that a 1995 Dodge Caravan rolled off the highway during the accident. Three people were initially trapped in the vehicle.

State Police closed one lane of Route 195 for several hours to reconstruct the accident.

First responders from Mattapoisett’s fire and ambulance departments assisted state police at the scene. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation Highways Division also responded.

The names of the people injured were not released. Police did provided the victims' address, gender and age. The injured include; a New Bedford woman, 52; a New Bedford man, 17; a New Bedford woman, 31; a New Bedford woman, 53; a Fall River woman, 75; a New Bedford woman, 72; and a 13-year-old juvenile.
