Superlative night brings out students' 'best'
Old Rochester Regional High School rolled out the red carpet for the annual Senior Superlative Gala on Thursday, Nov. 21. With nearly 200 people in attendance, the senior class fundraiser celebrated the class of 2014. Principal Mike Devoll and Drama Club Head Paul Sardinha, known as “Paul and Devoll,” were the hosts for the evening.
Highway menace, class clown, cutest couple, best personality and most artistic were some of the awards in 33 different categories. With so many awards, a plethora of students took home titles. Some memorable acceptance speeches were made, including one from Chris Demers, winner of “male class flirt.”
“I have a girlfriend,” he said after winning. “I’m going to hear about this one later.”
After winning teacher’s pet Lizzie Machado said, “Thanks to all my teachers for helping me so much over the years.”
When Bridget Costa claimed the factual award for shortest she replied, “Thank you to my mom. She’s five-one on a good day.” Bridget’s mother, Maureen Costa, was one of the event's organizers, along with Sharon Gaspar and the ORR yearbook club.
Senior students Morgan Collings, Josh Cronin, Haley Dickerson, Mitchel Geldmacher and Leah Thomas took part in the game show “Know Your School.” Eleven questions tested the participants on their knowledge of quirky school facts. When all was said and done, Leah won by a small margin. The ORR cheerleaders, dance team and a jazz ensemble provided entertainment for the evening.
