Center School the scene of 'Great Americans'
Pint sized versions of famous and influential residents from Massachusetts made an appearance at Center School on Friday.
For several weeks, each third grader has studied the life and achievements of everyone from political heavyweights to professional athletes. On Friday, they dressed like their person.
Several girls chose women's rights advocate and suffragette Susan B. Anthony.
"I wanted to know more about her and how she got our right to vote," said Sylvie Benson.
Ava Russell said she chose Anthony because "I'm really feisty and she's really interesting." Plus, "My sister was Susan B. Anthony, so I already had the costume."
Tyler Derrig learned about football player Doug Flutie for his project.
"I picked him because I love to play football, and I like to pass a lot with my dad," he said.
Benjamin Giumetti was the spitting image of Benjamin Franklin, and said there were so many "cool facts" about the founding father that he couldn't pick his favorite.
Sean Davis got Alexander Graham Bell for the project and said he wasn't too excited to study Bell.
"At first I thought, 'Oh geez, what am I going to do with Alexander Graham Bell?'" said Sean.
But once he started researching Bell, he found that he had a lot of other interesting inventions besides the telephone, including the hydrofoil watercraft and the metal detector.
"I didn't know he invented all the other stuff."
The kids showed off their costumes and shared facts with elderly residents of town on Friday morning at the Great American Breakfast, an annual event held to thank local senior citizens for their service to the school. Later in the day, the students presented their projects to their classmates and families.
