Campers chill out at Tabor's hockey program
Tabor Academy’s hockey camp ended on a cool note Friday as its 79 campers wrapped up the five-day program on the ice inside the Fish Center.
“It’s a great camp,” said program director Gerry Dineen. “We bring in high-level coaches who are also educators. They really help improve the kids’ skill on the ice.”
Now in its 15th year, the program attracts athletes from the tri-town in addition to Cape Cod, Plymouth and elsewhere on the South Coast. It’s open to kids ages 7 to 14 years old.
Dineen said the camp focuses on skills both on and off the ice. There’s classroom instruction in addition to drills and scrimmages.
Through the years, former campers have gone on to coach hockey at Old Rochester Regional High School while others continue to play at the collegiate level.
“A lot of the kids who came through the program are still coaching or playing,” Dineen said.
