Rochester Country Fair organizers gearing up for August

This year’s Rochester Country Fair returns with a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band, Scottish highland games and the kick-off parade, which was almost cancelled.

At Monday’s Selectmen meeting, fair committee Co-Chairs Julia Koczera and Dave Souza offered the board an update on the fair, now in its 16th year.

Due to a lack of interest in the parade the past few years, Koczera said organizers asked the community if it should be dropped.

“Overwhelmingly, we were told not to get rid of it,” Koczera said. “Hopefully, there will be a lot of people participating, both watching and marching.”

Souza said the committee is also considering serving beer for four hours during a Saturday night concert.

An extra police detail would be hired and someone would check identification if that request was approved.

Souza said it might be difficult to find a vendor for the right price, though.

Selectmen said if all regulations were followed, serving beer shouldn’t be a problem.

The fair takes place from Aug. 13 to 16 on Pine Street.
