ORR battles Seekonk with skits at pep rally

When it comes to conflict, students at Old Rochester Regional High School prefer to settle things on the dance floor.

At the school’s homecoming pep rally on Friday, the four grades presented skits based on fairy tales, movies and legends. Using costumes and songs, each group told how ORR would beat Seekonk hours before the homecoming football game - usually with an elaborate dance competition.

The freshman class started the rally with their take on the movie “Mean Girls.”

In the sophomore skit, the Seekonk Warriors captured ORR’s mascot, the Bulldog.

Gru, the “Despicable Me” villain, leads a group of minions to free the Bulldog. In the end, Seekonk is defeated following a dance challenge.

The juniors took the story of Peter Pan and gave it their own spin with elaborate costumes. Featured were squirrels, giraffes, pirates, mermaids who take to Twitter to express their emotions and, of course, a dance off that freed Wendy and her two brothers.

Somehow, the senior class topped that with a skit that featured Hercules on an epic journey to reclaim pages from a storybook. Narrated by Walt Disney (senior Evan Roznoy), the skit had Hercules meet characters from the Lion King, The Little Mermaid and just about every single Disney princess.

Principal Mike Devoll said students spent the past two weeks preparing for the weekend, which included a student dance on Saturday.

“A lot of time and planning went into this,” Devoll said.

Teachers judged the skits on several criteria. At the homecoming football game on Friday night it was announced that the juniors took first place with their fanciful take on Peter Pan.
