New Bedford man identified as fatal accident victim
Massachusetts State Police have identified the man killed in a motor vehicle accident on I-195 in Marion early Wednesday morning as 23-year-old Fredwilson Dossantos of New Bedford.
The accident involved a 2006 Ford Econoline van and a 2005 Ford F150 pickup at about 6:45 a.m. in the eastbound lane, west of exit 20.
According to police, preliminary investigation indicates Dossantos was a passenger in the van.
The other four victims — the van’s driver and three other passengers — are also males from New Bedford that suffered injuries of varying degree. One victim, a 27-year-old who was airlifted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after being treated at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, suffered serious injuries.
The other vehicle involved in the crash was operated by a 33-year-old New Bedford man. He was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police, with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Detective Unit for Plymouth County. No further information is being released at this time.
