Mattapoisett's 'Bubbly' blogger
Michelle Michaud’s Pink Bubbly fashion blog is just that – a lighthearted ode to clothes and accessories both trendy and classic.
Michaud, a Fairhaven native who lives in Mattapoisett with her husband Matt, started the blog six years ago while planning her wedding. Then named Pink Champagne, the blog evolved into a diary of Michaud’s outfits and favorite fashion finds and deals.
Fashion goes way back for Michaud. In kindergarten, when asked what she wanted to be she said, “I wrote down fashion model. Even at five, fashion was what I loved.”
While she didn’t end up on the runway, Michaud gets to live out that dream on her blog, modeling her sometimes dreamy, sometimes glittery, sometimes monogrammed, often colorful and always glam style.
“Every day you’re always you, but you can play up different aspects of your personality,” she said.
With a marketing degree, a master’s in business and a love for writing, Michaud had the tools to create a successful platform for her blog.
In 2013 and 2014, she and her husband spent a year on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for his job. After doing marketing and merchandising at a men’s retail clothing brand, she took the year as her opportunity to focus on Pink Bubbly full time.
Michaud ramped up her blog posts and launched the Pink Bubbly Shop, featuring necklaces bracelets, earrings and monogrammed pendants.
Naturally, the shop reflected her own style and encompassed her interests in the fashion business, from styling to marketing.
“If it’s not genuine and you don’t love what you’re showcasing, that comes across,” said Michaud. “Everything I have taken into the shop is something I would wear myself.”
Michaud said she enjoyed “doing the photography, deciding on the pricing, all the marketing … It allowed me to use my creative side and the fashion side I love.”
Pink Bubbly has given Michaud the opportunity to connect with fashionable 20- and 30-somethings, but always having an eye on fashion does mean the blogger has to always be wary of her style choices and acquiring too many great pieces.
Michaud says she has developed a “realistic eye.”
“You definitely have to have a little self-control,” she said. “Realistically there’s only so much a person can wear.”
Michaud said she’s willing to invest more in classic pieces than trendy seasonal items.
Plus, styles evolve. The year she spent in Hilton Head allowed Michaud to mix her Cape Cod style with southern prep.
“I think I’ve always had a little bit of that southern flair inside of me that was dying to come out,” she said.
Since returning to Mattapoisett, via a one-month stay in Paris, Michaud took a job in the personal shopping department of Saks Fifth Avenue in Boston. A full-time job plus a commute has meant spending less time on the blog and the shop, but she tries to post once or twice a week and daily on Instagram, usually with photos taken by her husband.
“He’s the man behind the lens,” she said.
Although busy, Michaud has no plans to give up the blog, one of her favorite creative outlets.
“I don’t see myself letting go of it any time soon,” she said. “It’s a great way for me to channel those different areas that I love.”
