Mattapoisett seeks information on Hurricane Bob

Apr 12, 2016

The Town of Mattapoisett, working with the Environmental Protection Agency and Massachusetts Coastal Zone Management, is evaluating impacts of extreme weather events such as hurricanes in Mattapoisett. Those who can remember the water height in their neighborhood during August 1991's Hurricane Bob are asked to share their memories and stories.

The information about Hurricane Bob will help the town estimate future storms to better protect Mattapoisett residents and property from future flooding.

Those who remember Hurricane Bob and its flood waters can help by sending: A picture of the exact location where you remember flooding in Mattapoisett. The library staff can scan your photos.

The closest street address and an estimate in feet and inches of the highest level of flood water for that location to the best of your memory. A story or recollection about how you weathered that storm or another one. Did you evacuate? Was there damage to your home and/or property or your neighbor's? Your name and the best way to contact you (this is optional) to ask for more details at a later date.

Pictures from other extreme weather events (floods, snow storms, hurricanes, etc.) or stories to share are also welcome.

All of the information can be sent by email to spizzolo@sailsinc.org or mail it to: Mattapoisett Free Public Library, Attn: Susan Pizzolato, P. O. Box 475, Mattapoisett, MA 02739.

Alternatively, contact Melodye Pacheco in the Selectmen's office at Town Hall or tweet messages and images with the hashtag #mattapoisettstorms.
