Oktoberfest features food, fun, music
The Marion Mason's third annual Oktoberfest celebration had a new location this year, but the atmosphere didn't change.
"It's working out," organizer Bruce Rocher Sr. said of the move from the VFW building to the Music Hall. "The stairs are a little difficult to bring stuff in an out, but it's definitely working out."
The celebration featured two bands, Alpenbumen Musikanten and Bavarian Brothers, and lots of traditional German food.
The menu consisted of bratwurst, knackwurst, potato salad and sauerkraut, while the beers on tap were also of German variety.
In addition to celebrating Oktoberfest, the event also acted as a fundraiser for the Masons.
"Most of the money raised goes to the Masonic Angel Fund, which is really popular for schools around here," Rocher said.
The fund is used to help children in need, often after a nurse, guidance counselor or principal from a school calls the Masons for help.
"We guarantee they will have the money within 24 hours," Rocher said. "The money goes toward things like glasses or musical instruments. It's really gratifying."
Rocher estimates that the Masons sold at least as many tickets this year in in past years, if not more.
"We have people from Plymouth and near Boston that came today, we've never had that before," he said. "We put it on Groupon and about five hundred people per day would look at it."
The festival last all day, from noon until 8 p.m., with the Masons doing all the cooking themselves.
"Anyone who was able to be involved is," Rocher said. "It's good for our charity and it's good for the community. People like it."
