Selectmen discuss Route 105 speed zone

Mar 22, 2017

People driving on Route 6 and Route 105 may feel the need for speed, but many residents feel the need for lower speed limits.

Selectmen Chair Jody Dickerson said he’s received a number of complaints about speeds on Route 105 between the I-195 overpass and Route 6. On Tuesday, he asked if the state could do a speed study in the area. Selectmen have already requested and received approval for a speed study on Route 6 this spring.

Town Administrator Paul Dawson said when the Marion Village Estates was constructed behind the Brew Fish, he and the police chief asked about getting the speed lowered and/or some sort of “traffic calming” installed, i.e. signage. In consulting with the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District, he was told the Department of Transportation probably wouldn’t adjust the speed on 105. Signs are still a possibility.

Dawson suggested making a list of requests and sitting down with a DOT employee at an upcoming Selectmen meeting. Selectmen were favorable to the idea.
