Bulldogs sweep homecoming game 47-12

Oct 21, 2017

Those hoping for a nail-biter of a football game might've been disappointed on Friday night.

Their disappointment might be soothed, however by the victory that the Old Rochester Regional High School football team handed to their homecoming foes, Seekonk High School.

The Bulldogs' victory was never really in doubt; by half-time, the score was 34-12, in favor of the Bulldogs. The Seekonk Warriors scored their final touchdown in the second quarter, but after that they never found the end zone again.

On the sidelines, Old Rochester supporters packed the stands and sidelines; a line for concessions looped around itself. A bulldog named Griswold made friends wherever he went.

At half-time, Old Rochester's cheerleading team performed, before members of the tri-town's Pop Warner football league crowded on the field, pretending they were playing in the big game.

As the game resumed, it took until late in the third quarter for ORR's Will Garcia to find the end zone again, but find it he did. With five minutes left in the third quarter, an attempt at a field goal failed, leaving the score at 40-12.

A few fans, planning ahead, were confident enough in an ORR victory to begin leaving the game before traffic snarled.

The Bulldogs weren't done, though; Garcia scored a 7-yard touchdown just minutes into the fourth quarter. This time, an attempted field goal succeeded, leaving the score at 47-12. That score would stand until the clock ran out.

Several Bulldogs earned multiple mentions for tackling or interceptions; among them were senior Harrison Smith, juniors Desmond Dias and Emo Schiappa and sophomore Cole Brezinski.

The game mark's the team's sixth win this year; they've suffered only one defeat, at the hands of Somerset Berkeley Regional, whom they lost to 33-36.

The Bulldogs have a good track record when it comes to homecoming games, though. The team has now won their last four homecoming games, defeating Apponequet in 2016, this year's foe Seekonk in 2015, and Wareham in 2014.
