Over 1,000 tri-town residents remain without power

Oct 31, 2017

In the aftermath of a windstorm which left trees down throughout the tri-town, emergency workers are still attempting to restore power to some areas in all three towns.

As of 8:30 p.m. on October 30, 396 people remain without power in Marion. In Mattapoisett, 300 people remain without power, while Rochester has the highest amount of dark households—529 customers are still waiting for power restoration, according to Eversource's map of power outages.

A post on Eversource MA's Facebook page indicates that they don't expect to fully restore power in the Plymouth, Cape and South Coast area until midnight on Tuesday, which means some residents may be facing another day without power.

Eversource contractors are still at work repairing damaged lines. The company's outage map is updated every 15 minutes with current information.

No announcements have yet been made on school closings.

Strong winds remained in the area for a long period of time. The National Weather Service reported peak wind gusts of up to 62 miles per hour in neighboring Wareham, the closest area to the tri-town with reported numbers.

Among many other incidents, trees fall across Point Road and Route 6 in Marion. Several trees fell in yards and across the road on North Street in Mattapoisett, and North Street from Crystal Spring Road to the border of Rochester was closed for several hours on Monday morning. The National Weather Service reported that a tree fell across a house in Rochester around 8:30 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service, parts of the tri-town received up to 2.5" of rain, with most of the area seeing about 2".
