Historical Society acquires White House Christmas ornament

Jan 3, 2018

The Sippican Historical Society has acquired a Christmas ornament from the White House, which features a very famous Sippican resident of the past.

Since 1961, the White House Historical Association has issued an annual White House ornament.

The Sippican Historical Society now has possession of the 2007 ornament, which celebrates the marriage of Grover Cleveland and Frances Folsom. President Cleveland is the only president to be married while in the White House. President Cleveland was 49 at the time of the marriage, while his bride was only 22.

The Clevelands spent their summers in Marion from 1889-1893, when Grover returned to the presidency for a second, non-consecutive term.
