A Mattapoisett man was killed in a rollover crash in Marion early on Saturday, January 6.

According to state police, troopers from the State Police Barracks in Bourne responded to a rollover crash around 7 a.m. The crash resulted in the death of the driver, Robert Xifaras, 55, of Mattapoisett.

Preliminary investigation by State Trooper Shawn Harris indicated that Xifaras was driving eastbound when, for reasons that are still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle, veered left into the median and rolled over.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section.

State Police were assisted on scene by Marion Fire, EMS and police, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and MA Department of Transportation.

The left travel lane was closed for approximately 3 hours to accommodate the investigation.
