Kids find books, science, fun at Plumb Library celebration

Feb 3, 2018

From mandolins to therapy dogs, and puppet shows and treasure hunts, there was a little something for everyone at Plumb Library's "Take Your Child to the Library Day" celebrations on Feb. 3.

"Take Your Child to the Library Day" is a national initiative, meant to introduce children and their families to libraries and the services they have available.

Vinny Lovegrove of the Toe Jam Puppet Band kicked things off at Plumb Library, presenting a shadow puppet story with plenty of interaction from the assembled audience.

Then, members of the Junior Friends of Plumb Library set up a science table for children to try out different ideas.

The library also offered a treasure hunt for two books; "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas," and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." The books weren't in their usual locations, and it was up to the children to explore the library and figure out where they were hiding.

Amos, the certified therapy dog who visits Plumb Library to listen to young readers, also appeared during the day, to greet fans old and new.

Audience participation during the puppet show, finding a missing book, and several other participation factors earned children tickets, which they could later enter in a prize drawing.
