A strong nor’easter has brought wind damage and power outages to the tri-town on March 2.

According to the National Weather service, 2 inches of rain has fallen in Taunton, the closest reported location to the tri-town.

Wind gusts in the area are some of the highest in the state; nearby Fairhaven has reported peak wind gusts of 65 mph. The only places to report higher wind gusts were Wellfleet, Woods Hole, Marstons Mills and Provincetown, which sit directly on the oceanfront.

The high winds have taken down trees throughout the tri-town; in Marion, trees toppled over onto power lines over Route 6; in Mattapoisett, trees were down on North Street in Mattapoisett and in several Rochester locations. Residents found downed lines on Mattapoisett Neck Road and Brant Beach Avenue.

Each downed wire had caused an electrical fire as the wires came into contact with brush and trees.

Lights will continue to flicker through the afternoon as power is affected. Rochester is the most widely-affected. According to Eversource's power outage map, at 3:17 p.m, the town had reported 1,100 power outages, about 45 percent of all customers served. By 4:43 p.m., as winds continued to roar, the number of outages in the town increasd to 1,352, over half of all residents.

Mattapoisett was not far behind, with 800 outages, while Marion counted only 78 outages at 4:17 p.m.
