Music students rock out to to boogie-woogie and the blues
The "Clarinet Boogie," an ode to the Headless Horseman, even a surprise visit from Mr. Willy Wonka himself (along with members of his tour).
The Friends of Old Rochester Music's 2018 instrumental concert, held on March 13, brought music students from Mattapoisett, Rochester and Marion into the Old Rochester Regional High School gymnasium for a night of musical performances.
The concerts are held annually to allow music students across the tri-town the chance to play music with one another, while raising scholarship funds for graduating music students.
At one point during the night, members of the high school's drama club appeared to promote their show, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."
Students from Sippican School, led by Hannah Moore, performed "Iron Heart" and "Clarinet Boogie." They were followed by Rochester Memorial School music students, led by Chris Williamson, who played "The Thunderer" and "Mr. Sax Rocks Again."
The students of Old Hammondtown School, led by Cara Kinney, played "Castle Gale 1924," followed by a rousing round of "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious."
Then, it was the junior high and high school students' turn. Seventh-grade junior high students, led by teacher Richard Laprise, played "The Headless Horseman" and "The Red Balloon," before the eighth-grade class performed "Portrait of a Clown" and "Odysseus and the Sirens."
After the junior high students, the high school band, led by Michael Barnicle, performed "Afterlife," and "Go Tell it on the Mountain."
Then, only the Old Rochester District Concert Band remained. The band performed "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," and "Grand Old Flag"
