Apr 18, 2018

A 38-year-old woman from Bourne was killed early on Tuesday morning on Route 195, Mattapoisett Fire Rescue reported.

The victim has been identified as Marcy Cushing.

Around 1 a.m., responders were called to Route 195 East for a motor vehicle accident. According to the Massachusetts State Police, the driver was traveling on Route 195 eastbound in a 2013 Toyota Camry when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled off the left side of the road into the median and struck a tree.

The Jaws of Life were used to extricate the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the driver has not been released, pending family notification. No further information on the crash is available at the time.

Mattapoisett Fire Rescue asked that people remain vigilant at all times while operating a motor vehicle.

"This incident is the third fatal accident in our community within the last two months," department representatives said in a social media post.  "Not to mention, two of our firefighters were almost struck by a vehicle that intentionally drove into an accident scene to try and take a photograph during an incident earlier this month. Please take all the necessary precautions and follow the rules of the road so we all can help ensure everyone stays safe and makes it home."
