Artisan pizza restaurant opening in Mattapoisett

Mattapoisett residents will soon have a new dining option when Rustico opens for business in the former How On Earth building.

The restaurant, located at 62 Marion Road, currently has a take-out window open, and owner Al Meninno Jr. said he hopes the dining area will be open by June.

“We’ll be focused primarily on artisan and brick oven pizza,” Meninno said. “There will be soups and salads and a few pasta dishes with some protein to go with it. It’ll be a limited menu.”

Meninno was in front of the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday night to get his alcohol license.

“We’d like to have an eight-person bar [in front],” he said. “We’d have alcohol be part of the total experience.”

The back deck would also have a small bar to serve overflow customers waiting for a table.

“We’d like to operate something like that on busy nights when the weather is good,” Meninno said. “We don’t want people to drink on the grounds, it would be contained to the deck. The alcohol is just a complement to the food.”

Additionally, Meninno added that the restaurant would not be open late.

“It’s family hours,” he said. “We’d close at 9 p.m. most of the time, 10 p.m. on weekends.”

The board unanimously approved the all alcohol license.
