Marion Police are investigating the death of a 63-year-old man found July 31, in Evergreen Cemetery by a passerby. Initial indications are that he died of natural causes.

Police were called to the Mill Street (Route 6) cemetery at around  6 p.m. on Tuesday after someone riding a bike through the burial ground called from a cellular phone and said they had discovered a man believed to be deceased in the cemetery, according to Marion Police Chief John Garcia.

The man's body was on the ground on the east side of the town-owned cemetery, Garcia said. Marion Police and EMS were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arriving, police and EMS units found the body, as well as his dog nearby. Emergency personnel on the scene located the man's cell phone and were able to contact family members. The man, whose identity is not being released at this time, had reportedly left his home at approximately 5 p.m. to walk the dog. Garcia said it appears the man experienced a medical emergency and died. Police said the dog is alive and safe.

The incident is being investigated by the Marion Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detective Division and the Office of the Medical Examiner.
