Aug. 15 is deadline to register to vote in Sept. 4 election
The State Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 4, across the Commonwealth.
Fifteen seats are up for election this fall, although many do not involve primary contests. The 15 are: US Senator, Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Auditor, Ninth District Representative in Congress, First District Councillor, Second Bristol and Plymouth District Senator in General Court, Tenth Bristol District Representative in General Court, Plymouth County District Attorney, Plymouth County Clerk of Courts, Plymouth County Register of Deeds, and Plymouth County Commissioner.
Town Clerks in Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester want voters to have all the necessary information to vote in the state primary election. Deadline to register to vote or change your party affiliation in all three towns is Wednesday, Aug. 15, in the appropriate town clerk's office.
Voters who are registered in any of the three political parties -Democratic, Libertarian or Republican -- must take those ballots only.
Unenrolled voters or voters registered in any other party designations may choose a ballot from any of the three parties. This will not change your political affiliation.
There are no ballot questions for any of the towns in the primary election. The state election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018.
Marion:
Polling place: Benjamin Cushing Center, 465 Mill St. (Route 6)
Polls open: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Absentee ballot applications and ballots are available during regular Town House hours (Monday -Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) until 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug, 31.
The Marion Town Clerk's office, located in Marion Town House, 2 Spring St., will remain open until 8 p.m. on Aug. 15.

Polling place: Old Hammondtown School cafetorium, 20 Shaw St.
Polls open: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Mattapoisett Town Clerk's office will stay open on Aug. 15, until 8 p.m..
Absentee ballots are now available during normal business hours to those who qualify to receive one. For more information, call the Town Clerk’s Office at 508-758-4100, extension 2.
Rochester:
Polling Place: Rochester Senior Center, 67 Dexter Lane
Polls open: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Absentee ballots are available in the Town Clerk's office during business hours. Rochester Town hall is located at 1 Constitution Way. Town Hall hours are abbreviated during summer so please check times before heading out. Call the Town Clerk's office at 508-763-3871, extension 17.
