Author reading at Ansel Gurney House

South Coast author Catherine McLaughlin will read excerpts from her new book, "Blue Collars", from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Ansel Gurney House, located at 403 County Road.

"Blue Collars" is fictionalized historical story about growing up during the late 1950s and 1960s in a New Bedford working-class family. It details the triumphs and tragedies of the close-knit Kilroy family.

McLaughlin, a New Bedford native who now resides in Padanaram, is a college professor and published poet and painter. During the event, she will take questions from the audience and will sign and personalize books.

McLaughlin received her undergraduate degree from UMass Dartmouth, and her graduate degrees from the University College Dublin and Bowling Green State University. She has taught English and writing for 40 years and is a professor emerita of Framingham State University.
