MARION — Two Planning Board positions and one Assessor position will be contested in the upcoming spring election. Nine other positions are unconstested. 

Fifteen people had taken out positions in Marion at the deadline to pull papers on March 25.

One of the contested positions is the one three year term for Assessor that opened up when Brad Eames decided not to run for re-election. Barry Gaffey, Catherine A. Gibbs and Alan Minard have all taken out papers to run for the position. Gibbs has already returned her papers as well.

The other contested race is for the Planning Board. Stephen Kokkins and William Watson Saltonstall are both at the end of their terms on the Board. Saltonstall will run again, Kokkins will not. Barry Gaffey, William do Carmo and Joseph Rocha have also expressed interest in joining the Planning Board.

John Waterman’s term as Selectman was up, and he took out papers to run again. He is unopposed.

Jason Reynolds’ position on the Board of Health is up for re-election, and Edward Hoffer has pulled papers to fill it.

Jon Henry’s appointed position as the Tree Warden is also ending this year. Russel L. Gunschel has pulled papers to fill the spot.

Christine Marcolini has elected not to run again for the Marion School Committee. Nichole Daniel has pulled papers for the position, however. On the ORR School Committee, current member Heather Burke took out papers for another three years.

The two Open Space Acquisition Committee members who were up for re-election, John Rockwell and Casey Gunschel have both taken out papers to fill their positions again. Town Moderator, Brad Gordon, has done the same for his position.

Waterman, and Rockwell have already returned their papers as well.
