Making designs that stick

May 17, 2019

MATTAPOISETT — Students in Kate Butler’s visual design class at Old Rochester Regional High School worked to make their designs stick with the Mattapoisett Land Trust so that the environmental group would print them on a sticker.

Surprisingly the winning design was not a student in Butler’s class, but Sofia Martins,  a freshman who happened to hear about the contest at a Bulldog Block presentation and used her own time to come up with a design.

The runner up, Geneva Smith is a senior in the visual design class who plans to major in art at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Students researched the Lands Trust’s mission of stewardship, education and preservation before beginning on their own designs.

Mattapoisett Land Trust Education committee members MaryAnn Buckley and Wendy Copps presented Smith and Butler with prizes donated by local businesses.
