MATTAPOISETT — A March 6 fire at a home on Route 6 near 143 Market caused no injuries, but cost the homeowners $100,000 in damage and stopped traffic on Route 6.

Fire Chief Andy Murray reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the back of the house and requested backup from Marion and Fairhaven Fire Departments while the Rochester Fire Department covered the station.

The 22-person crew extinguished the fire in the rear and basement of the house in approximately 25 minutes. Traffic on Route 6 was stopped while firefighters were working to extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported, but the Red Cross was called in to assist the three people that live in the home.

At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Mattapoisett Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police Fire Investigation Unit.
