On the road again, Marion making more road improvements

Sep 17, 2025

MARION — Pavement updates will continue while the Marion Select Board looks for other grants to fund road needs.

The select board reported that the cost of pavement has increased about 30% since last year's original estimations at their meeting Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Unfortunately, the updates they were looking to make to the sidewalks from Route 6 to Water Street were about $2 million dollars.

The sidewalks from Ryder Street to Silver Shell Street would have cost around $2.5 million.

The board has looked at using different types of materials for the sidewalks, hoping to find cheaper options to fix what is needed.

The board has applied for a grant that could free up around $450,000 for sidewalk implementation on Pitcher Street and Clark Street.

Spring Street maintenance was completed for about $100,000 under budget. Delano Road now requires more improvements than originally planned, increasing costs by $200,000.

Creek Road seems to be on budget and on track to be paved by 2027.

Originally, the board planned to create a shared path on Point Road, but need to apply for more grants to make this happen.

Tower Administrator Geoffrey Gorman said, “we're continuing to evaluate sidewalks and roads and trying to prioritize them.”
