First covid cases reported at Rochester Memorial School
ROCHESTER — Rochester Memorial School has been the only covid-free building in the Old Rochester Regional School District since classes started on Sept. 16. That is, until now, as two positive cases were reported on Dec. 7.
In a press release, the district said both individuals have not been in the building since Nov. 20. The announcement didn’t disclose whether they are students, faculty or staff.
Contact tracing is in progress and any close contacts, or those who came in within six feet of the individuals for more than 15 minutes, will be notified and followed by Rochester public health officials.
These are the 31st and 32nd covid-19 cases in the school district. With the district’s announcement of six new cases on the same day, there have been 38 confirmed cases since classes started on Sept. 16.
All schools will continue with their normal schedules, and all buildings will continue to be cleaned every day after school and as needed.
The district urges any parents to keep their children home if they feel ill or shows symptoms of coronavirus. Testing can be done either through a primary healthcare provider or at one of the testing sites located throughout the state.
