MARION — Join the Marion Natural History Museum for a mid-autumn hike on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to look for mushrooms still fruiting.

Participants will chat about basic anatomy and diagnostic features for identifying mushrooms as well as how to identify a few beginner edible mushrooms and their closest non-edible look-alikes. Some potential species of fungi fruiting at this time of the year include chicken of the woods, hen of the woods, shrimp of the woods, old man of the woods, various coral and ramaria, oysters, honey mushrooms, and more.

The group will meet at the Shoolman Preserve, near 204 New Bedford Road, Rochester, just west of Captain Bonney’s Ice Cream. Off-street parking is available in the area marked with a Rochester Land Trust/Mattapoisett Land Trust sign. The kiosk is at the parking area.
