All items passed or postponed at Marion Town Meeting

Oct 23, 2023

MARION — Marion voters packed into the Sippican School multi-purpose room on Monday, Oct. 23 and had their say on 12 items on the 2023 Special Fall Town Meeting agenda.

Every item but one on the agenda was passed by the town — some with more discussion than others.

Town Meeting voted to borrow $922,000 for the construction of a new harbormaster facility on Island Wharf. This item generated discussion between residents both for and against the project.

Town Meeting also voted to allocate $56,907 for the purchase and installation of new communications equipment for the town’s fire department and $12,000 for the purchase and installation of audio and video equipment in the Marion Town House.

Item nine on the Town Meeting agenda, which would have changed town bylaws to require dog owners to “possess the means of removal of any fecal matter left by such dog,” was indefinitely postponed.

“This bylaw is well intended but public input is that it is impractical,” said Marion Select Board Chair Toby Burr.
