MATTAPOISETT — In an effort to use the remaining American Rescue Plan Act funds allocated by Plymouth County, the town of Mattapoisett aims to spend $540,000 to improve town buildings.

Mattapoisett Town Administrator Mike Lorenco said at a Feb. 26 meeting of the Mattapoisett Select Board that the county requested a list of projects that will receive ARPA funding in 2024.

According to Lorenco, the town has $550,000 remaining in ARPA funds from Plymouth County that needs to be allocated in 2024.

He added that the town still has $193,000 in ARPA funds from the federal government left to allocate.

Of the $550,000 remaining from the county, $125,000 will go towards a generator for the housing authority. The project is “seven years in the making” according to Lorenco.

Lorenco said $400,000 of the town’s remaining ARPA funds will be allocated towards a proposed new water and sewer building.

At a Feb. 12 Select Board meeting, Mattapoisett Water and Sewer Department Superintendent Henri Renauld said he aims to get approval for a new 16,080 square foot water and sewer building at SpringTown Meeting.

Lastly, $15,000 will be used to upgrade computers in town offices. Lorenco said that some computers used by Mattapoisett town employees are seven years old.

All ARPA funds must be spent by the end of 2026, he said.
