April Nye
As current chairperson of the Marion School Committee, April Nye said she wants to continue the work that has already started. Nye is running for a third three-year term.
“I'm a firm believer in doing self reflection, and when we ever have the attitude that we've done everything that we possibly can do, well that's not the case,” Nye said. “That's not the facts, so I do believe that we can always make something better than it is.”
A parent and grandparent of current and former Sippican Elementary School students, Nye said she’d like to see through endeavors like getting a new principal and vice principal.
Behavior in school is something to be addressed, according to Nye, who previously served as the president of Volunteers at Sippican Elementary, a community volunteer organization.
She said it’s a “balancing act” to “meet students and families where they're at and to better provide them with an education and services that they need, while also supporting other children.”
“I'm really looking forward to our next administration at Sippican also spearheading those endeavors and really kind of pulling things in and approaching things from different angles so we're a better school,” Nye said.
Nye said when she first ran in 2018, her “mission” was school safety – to have a school resource officer at Sippican School. The school now has a school resource officer, something Nye said she is “beyond thrilled with.”
“That’s working out wonderfully, so I’m very proud of that,” she said.
Nye is also a member of the Old Rochester Regional School Committee.
She said doesn’t want Sippican School families to “feel as though they're not being heard or things aren't being addressed.”
“As a School Committee member and as a community member, I want to see that being addressed and being rectified at the school,” Nye said.
