Book release a family affair at Sippican Healthcare

Sep 28, 2024

MARION — When Sarah Wyman was just three years old, her father Rudd Wyman would place her on his shoulders and “take her to the moon” in the dark pantry of their Wilbraham home, an act that Wyman said unlocked her imagination.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, Wyman presented her new children's book, titled ‘My Moon’, to Rudd on his 96th birthday.

Rudd sat in the Sippican Healthcare activities room alongside his wife Margie, tears streaming down his face, as Sarah Wyman read the book aloud to a gathering of friends and family.

Margie is a resident at Sippican Healthcare Center.

Sarah Wyman has been working on getting the book published for 20 years. She said it was “a dream come true” to put the book in her fathers hands.

Wyman said she wanted the book to help “reignite that imagination” in children that she had when she was a child.

“This is a true story of a girl whose father shared with her the power of imagination in the most interstellar way,” said Wyman before starting the reading of the story. “A small Massachusetts pantry became the launchpad for the most magnificent journey across the stars.”

Following the reading, cake and sparkling cider was shared amongst attendees to celebrate the release of the book and Rudd’s birthday.

“It’s not about selling books,” said Wyman. “It’s about sharing the experience of my childhood.”

Rudd announced his pleasure with the book and told his daughter he loved her.

“My Moon” by Sarah Wyman is available for purchase on Amazon.
