Lions Club fall festival features family fun
MATTAPOISETT — Truckloads of families enjoying hayrides around Mattapoisett Village is a sign that fall is officially in full swing.
The Mattapoisett Lions Club hosted its Fall Free Family Fun Festival in Shipyard Park on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The festival included many attractions and games including the hayrides, pumpkin bowling, face painting and fortune telling.
Kimberly Ray, communications director for the Mattapoisett Lions Club, said the purpose of the event is to offer families a fun day without having to worry about spending money.
The event has been taking place annually since the fall of 2016, but no previous rendition of the event saw better weather as temperatures reached 70 degrees and clouds were few and far between.
The Lions Club received grants from the Mattapoisett Cultural Council and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office to hold the event, according to Ray. The Mattapoisett Fire department stopped by with a fire engine and beverages were donated by Dunkin’ Donuts.
The hayrides and face painting were among the favorite activities by children in attendance. Waves of kids entered the face painting line before leaving resembling cats and other creatures.
Children also selected their favorite pumpkin from a patch.
“We all love doing this,” said Ray. “We love seeing the kids and families come together.”
Ray was grateful for the amount of help the club received from volunteers to run booths and give hayrides.
“We’re lucky to be able to do this for the town,” said Ray.
