Co-owner of Marion parking lot seeks town aid for repairs
The parking lot of the Marion General Store is in need of a little repainting. To do so, co-owner of the lot John Ludes is asking the town for help in covering the costs.
On Tuesday night, Ludes met with the Selectmen to discuss the lot, which Ludes says needs some upkeep with the lines in between parking spaces.
“From a safety standpoint, it would be very beneficial for someone from the town to come in and lay it out,” Ludes said. “We’ve had a few people run into each other in the lot.”
Although the lot is privately owned by Ludes and General Store owner Jack Cheney, it has been used by the public for years.
Selectmen Chair Stephen Cushing said this is a common misconception with the public.
“Most people have an assumption that it’s a public lot and it’s not,” Cushing said.
Ludes and the other owners of the lot have privately paid for the maintenance costs, including snow plows in the winter and gardening.
Given the amount of traffic that comes in and out of the lot, the Selectmen agreed to consider Ludes’ proposal.
The Selectmen asked to meet with Ludes again to discuss the idea after getting a few cost estimates from contractors.
