The Loneliness Epidemic at the Marion Institute

MARION — Widespread loneliness in the United States poses health risks similar to smoking 15 cigarettes a day, according to Surgeon General research reiterated on the Marion Institute website.

Attorney and author Dr. J. Walter Freiberg will discuss adult loneliness in his upcoming lecture at the Marion Music Hall on Wednesday, May 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m, titled “The Loneliness Epidemic: How it Evolved and How to Avoid It.”

Dr. Freiberg wrote three books on the subject of modern loneliness known as “The Loneliness Trilogy" and has previously hosted public lectures on the topic.

Hosted by the Marion Institute, attendees will learn about the societal and psychological factors that contribute to loneliness, in addition to how loneliness affects individuals on a physical level.

Dr. Freiberg will also expand upon methods to maintain the quality and quantity of social relationships.

The lecture will conclude with a question and answer session, followed by refreshments and continued discussion.
