ROCHESTER — The Rochester Police Department received a distress call during the morning of Monday, July 28 from a concerned neighbor who saw an overturned canoe in Snipatuit Pond.

Sergeant Connor Leddin arrived at the scene and used a drone to gain an aerial view of the overturned canoe.

At the same time, the Rochester Fire Department was deployed and used a boat to get to the canoe.

Rochester Fire Department Deputy Chief Jeffrey Eldridge and firefighter Tracy Eldridge located the canoe and confirmed that the boater was safe.

“We located the individual who had capsized from his boat. He was able to swim ashore with no injuries and declined medical treatment,” said Rochester Police Chief Michael Assad, adding that the “Rochester Fire Department and Rochester Police department worked very well together to get out there as quickly as possible.”
