ORR Junior High Camp for troubled kids a success
Old Rochester Regional Junior High School Principal Kevin Brogioli took a handful of kids above the clouds to give them a little perspective.
Last month, seven 7th grade boys attended a two-day wilderness camp on New Hampshire's Mt. Hedgehog.
“I have identified a group of male students that had some discipline issues on a regular basis last year. Some have respect issues. Some have issues of authority,” Brogioli said before the camp.
Brogioli, Mattapoisett police officer Mitchell Suzan and High School Vice-Principal Michael Parker lead the trip.
“The toughest part of the bus trip was on the way up. They were so hyped up,” said Brogioli. "They were amazed that we were driving in the clouds."
The group spotted a moose, swam, fished and “ate a ton,” said Brogioli.
But the main purpose of the camp was to help the kids connect with school authorities and to encourage respectful attitudes.
“We discussed themes of respect around the campfire,” he added.
Brogioli said having Suzan and Parker on the trip was good for the students.
“It will really help them as they transition to the high school.”
