Mother Goose talks Itsy Bitsy Spider, Gingerbread Man

Mother Goose, Jack and Jill and the Gingerbread Man were spotted in Mattapoisett on Friday, October 12.

Anne-Marie Forer, aka Mother Goose, has visited the kindergarten classes of Center School for four years to sing songs and share stories.

Goose, a resident of Warwick, Rhode Island also goes by the name Pumpkin Princess, Mrs. Clause and Mrs. Frost.

After working as a librarian at a hospital, Goose realized that she could be a storyteller and teach children.

“I want to support literacy and music,” said Goose. “I try to use words the kids will hear and musical and creative concepts.”

For 20 years, Goose has done that at schools, libraries, churches, festivals and hospitals with her rhyming, singing and storytelling program.

“I love the kids. You can have all kinds of worries on your mind when you go in, and you forget all your troubles,” she said.

Although she’s been storytelling professionally for two decades, Goose said she doesn’t get tired of singing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” or telling tales about the Gingerbread Man.

“Everything I do, the stories, it’s always a little different because it’s oral,” said Goose. “You learn something every time. That’s what keeps it fresh.”

Goose will return to Mattapoisett with Cindy Killavey as the Take Two Tandem Tellers at Salty’s Silver Moon Soiree on October 20 at Dunseith Gardens on Route 6 and North Street.
