To raise $12,000 for their trip to Walt Disney World, Old Rochester Regional Junior High Cheerleaders have taken to the streets with flamingos.

In November, the 12 cheerleaders in the Red Squad won an entry to the National High School Cheerleading Championship at Disney.

But to get there, they needed about $1,000 per person to cover expenses. Both the students and their parents have organized a number of fundraisers as well as a donation page at rally.org.

The effort has paid off. In less than a month, the team went from $225 to almost $10,000.

With its latest fundraiser, the squad has people seeing pink. For $25, anyone can have a friend's yard covered with 25 flamingo lawn ornaments.

Last weekend was the first "flocking," starting with two homes in Mattapoisett.

Parent Dawn Underhill said flamingos will stay on lawns for 24 to 48 hours, and she hopes recipients will pay to send the birds to another yard in Marion, Mattapoisett, or Rochester.
