After controversy, Bob's Tire moves to Wareham

Mar 19, 2013

More than a year since controversy arose between the owners of Bob’s Tire Company in Rochester and neighbors, the company's owners have decided to discontinue operations at 19 County Road and move to Wareham.

Previously, Bob’s Tire had sought a Class III license to operate at the property owned by Michael Murphy. Murphy, who operates Murphy’s Auto Salvage on the same lot, was granted a special permit in 1985 with the condition that the property not be used as a junkyard.

In fall 2011, abutters complained that the staff of Bob’s Tire left debris on the property. At that time, Murphy removed the debris and cleaned up the property to appease the neighbors.

The issue has since been discussed with the Selectmen and the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Of Bob’s Tire’s move to Wareham, Murphy said, “It got to be a big hassle. We’re very sad to see the way it turned out. They’ve got a great business, and I’m sure they’re going to do great in Wareham.”

Murphy’s existing permit is set to expire on March 28, but Selectmen recently granted Murphy a Class III license to continue operating his business on the County Road property.
