Dear friends,
This is the concert I’ve been looking forward to the most in our season. Legendary jazz pianist Michel Camilo will be playing his own piano concerto with us. You’ve never heard a piece like this before. The entire orchestra becomes a Latin jazz band. Camilo’s playing is electrifying. Unreal. Having him perform with us in New Bedford is a dream come true - you don’t want to miss it!
We’ll open the concert with an evocative piece by Missy Mazzoli about the relationship between machines and music. Have you ever jammed to the beat of your car’s turn signal? Come hear where Mazzoli takes this idea.
We will also play Brahms’ 3rd Symphony, which has the most joyful and energetic openings ever written, and which ends with one of the most beautiful sunsets. It’s a very personal piece, and in the concert I will tell you why. I’ll also share the inside joke that Brahms planted and built the entire piece around.
See you soon!
