‘Drawn to Nature’ exhibit to open at Mattapoisett Library in January
MATTAPOISETT — As part of its artist series, the Mattapoisett Free Public Library is presenting a collage exhibit by Helen Lozoraitis called "Drawn to Nature," which runs from Thursday, Jan. 2 to Tuesday, Jan. 31.
A longtime nature observer, Lozoraitis “takes photographs that she integrates with both real world and abstract visual elements to create mixed media collages,” a press release said.
The art consists of hand-painted and printed papers layered with original images and a range of other materials, sometimes with stitching on top.
Lozoraitis “sees her collages as small-scale shrines that express respect and appreciation for our fellow species on this planet, as well as deep concern about their welfare in the face of runaway global warming and widespread habitat destruction.”
The exhibit is a collection of pieces inspired by beach walks and woodland hikes on the South Coast.
Lozoraitis’ mixed-media pieces have been shown in a number of nature-oriented exhibits at several Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuaries, the Audubon Center in Pennsylvania and other art venues in Massachusetts.
In November 2023, her piece (Dumpster Planet) won the Best in Show award in the “Blue” exhibit at the Cambridge Art Association.
